Certified Organic

Relax. It’s organic. No chemicals were used in the making of this product. Organic chocolate, organic nuts, organic fruits, organic everything. Only products that have been officially certified can carry the USDA Organic Seal. This means that each ingredient which goes into Nanga Chocolate snacks is produced using practices that promote ecological balance and conserve biodiversity. According to the USDA National Organic Program, organic operations must maintain or enhance soil and water quality, while also conserving wetlands, woodlands, and wildlife. Synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, irradiation, and genetic engineering are a no go.

We handle all of our own production so we are on the ground inspecting our ingredient supply chain as it arrives at our facility for quality and adherence to the USDA Organic standards.

Our ingredients are as naked and true to the earth as possible. They adhere to organic farming guidelines and aren’t treated with any synthetic chemicals that eventually run off into our streams, rivers, and lakes.

No GMOs Ever

Both Fair Trade USA and Organic standards prohibit the use of genetic engineering or genetically modified organisms in Fair Trade Certified and/or organic products, so whenever you see the Fair Trade or USDA Organic Seal, you’re in the clear.

Steam Pasteurized Almonds (No Chemical Baths for These Nuts)

Here’s something you probably didn’t know about conventional almonds: they are gassed with poison before being sold to you. In 2007, after a salmonella outbreak in Canada was traced back to almond growers in California, it became illegal to sell raw almonds in the United States. Despite this and shortly after, another outbreak occurred and the government began requiring that all almonds undergo a Salmonella treatment process before being sold to consumers. There are two ways that almonds can be pasteurized to kill Salmonella. The cheap, dirty way used by the majority of conventional growers consists of fumigating almonds with propylene oxide, a chemical that even the CDC has admitted causes cancer. The clean, organic and safe way is more akin to a spa and involves a lovely H2O steam that achieves almond pasteurization by bringing kernel temperatures up to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. USDA Organic Standards assure that certified organic almonds use the safe steam pasteurization method, so luckily we don’t have to go out of our way to source chemical-free almonds. Ours just come that way.

Fair Trade USA Certified

Improving lives and protecting the environment are two of our core brand principles. That’s why we work with Fair Trade USA to source ingredients which adhere to rigorous social, environmental, and economic standards that promote healthy working conditions for individuals, protect the environment and empower communities.

No Dairy

Does Cocoa Butter have dairy in it because it’s called butter? No! This is just the name of the plant-based fat that is in the cocoa bean. So don’t worry, we don’t work with milk chocolate and our chocolate products are free of all animal-based products including dairy!

Vegan? YES.

100% Plant Based Chocolate Products are our mission.

Even the sugar?

Yes, that's a thing - animal byproducts are sometimes used in the sugar refining process. Our sugar, however, is 100% vegan. Nanga dark chocolate bark is made with 70% dark chocolate sweetened with organic vegan fair trade cane sugar. Nanga cocoa-dusted almonds and pecans are sweetened only with pure organic North American maple syrup.

Gluten Free

No Gluten around here. We’re not sure what to say about this one other than that we don’t need it to make our treats taste amazing.

Sprouted Nuts

By sprouting our nuts we wash away phytic acid to help increase digestibility and nutrient absorption. All nuts naturally contain phytic acid, an “anti-nutrient”. Phytic acid binds to minerals and nutrients in the digestive tract, preventing absorption. By simulating germination and effectively sprouting our nuts we reduce the phytic acid content and end up with a light and crunchy nut meat.

Soy Lecithin? Nope.

Soy lecithin is an emulsifier/preservative used by larger chocolate manufacturers in lieu of cocoa butter to reduce their costs. Because lecithin is the cheap, highly processed byproduct of oil production, and was traditionally never used in chocolate making - we thought we would leave it out. Nanga Chocolate would never deprive you of cocoa butter and our products contain no soy anything including 0 soy lecithin.
